My favorite things - Travel Spain/Porto 1

We departed from O'Hare (ORD) airport on May 16th flying Iberia Airlines to Madrid, Spain arriving on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. My suitcase was organized for the longest trip I have ever taken. Sixteen days felt eternal to me. In the past there were time limits to our travel usually due to the kid’s school schedule. I was grateful for the ten-day limit. For this trip I was forced out of my comfort zone.

When I travel, the contents of my suitcase are organized by day. Each day of the trip has an outfit assigned to it for half of the entire time. For this trip there was eight days of clothing. Laundry would be done on the seventh day. Planning in this manner forces me to analyze every item that goes into the suitcase. It also forces me to analyze each day, and where I will be on the seventh day.  Are there self-serve laundry facilities in the area? On this trip I changed one of the locations because the city we stayed in for two nights had several laundry locations.

There were eight people in our group: Tom, Kathy, Grace, Renata, Megan, Mike, Stephanie & Robin. We had a wonderful private driver pick us up at the airport. Renata arrived on United Airlines, we assumed that we would easily find her at baggage claim. Once we explained to our driver Pavlo the details he explained that United was a different terminal. That was the first of many instances in which I was grateful for Pavlo. Our group of seven walked to the van and Pavlo united us with Renata, and we rode for approximately twenty minutes to check in at Hotel Intur Palacio San Martin, 5, Madrid, 28013. The main goal of this first day was to stay active until evening.
